Support asked for the order screenshot — and the number is still showing
Customer service asks you to send the order page. You grab the screenshot and the phone number, order ID, or ID number is sitting in the frame. The question is not which filter looks nicer — it is whether this file should leave uncovered, and whether anyone can still read the digits after you paint.
Customer service asks you to send the order screenshot. You grab the phone, and the phone number, order ID, or ID number is still sitting in the frame. They need the status; they do not need the full string. Sending it uncovered is the leak — not the ticket itself.
Three contrasts: redact or send, mosaic or black-out, one file or a batch
The chat rarely spells out all three. Line up what you are about to send with what they actually need, then paint.
| What you are deciding | Do the left first | Do not start on the right |
|---|---|---|
| Cover the number, or send the shot as-is | Support wants the order status, a refund trail, or “this page exists.” They do not need the full phone, order, or ID string. Cover those digits, then send. | A bank, visa, or official portal that asks for the complete fields. Painting those boxes sends the pack back. A public shop name with no number — usually skip it. |
| Mosaic blocks, or a black bar | Digits are glyphs. Open Mosaic / Blur and use mosaic — blocks break 6 from 8. Paint the full string plus a little margin. | A thin black sticker in the chat window. It often sits on top, not in the pixels, or leaves a half-digit. Solid black can work if you zoom and still cannot read it; mosaic is the safer default for numbers. |
| One screenshot, or the same box on ten | Mosaic handles one file at a time. Two order shots almost never share a number position. You cannot batch-move the box. | Looking for “apply to all.” There is no batch. Compress and EXIF clean can run as a batch later — redaction cannot. |
Mosaic is single-image: you cannot batch-move the same box onto many numbers. Cover the digits in the pixels, then zoom until you cannot read them. Keep each file at or under 20MB.
One screenshot: cover the digits, then zoom
Open Mosaic on Image8K. Paint and export stay in this browser; the screenshot is never uploaded. The next order page starts over — there is no “apply these strokes to all,” and there should not be.
- Drop in this one file. JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, at or under 20MB. If it is still iPhone
.heicand the page will not open, convert it first with the HEIC to JPG guide, then paint that JPG. - Pick mosaic for a phone, order, or ID number. Blur keeps a soft outline — weak for small type. A chat black bar is not this step. Intensity and brush size stay on this file only.
- Paint the full string, plus a little margin. Status-bar peek, second line, and the corner thumbnail count. A half-digit left open is enough to guess the rest.
- Zoom the preview until you cannot read it. Thumbnail size lies. If you can still tell 6 from 8, enlarge the brush or raise intensity and paint again. The effect is baked into the pixels on export.
- Download only this shot. The next screenshot: drop, paint, zoom, download. No batch.
Cover the number on one screenshot locally
The pixels are covered — what still leaks
Painting the digits does not clear the file header. A phone original may still carry time, camera model, or GPS — that is a separate pass with EXIF Viewer; the walkthrough is the strip-EXIF / GPS guide. Do not treat mosaic as a substitute for clearing metadata.
If the ticket also caps KB, follow the compress-to-target-KB guide after you paint — compressing the uncovered original keeps the number. Need a 1-inch or 1:1 face from the same roll, use the ID-photo crop guide. Watermarking a shop name is not redaction; if the same file will go elsewhere, the photo watermark guide is a different job.
Image8K paints in the browser. Order pages, chat logs, and ID crops stay on this device. There is no “upload first, redact later.”
What “the number is still showing” usually misses
Support asked for the order screenshot: decide whether they need the full string, cover the digits with mosaic — not a thin chat sticker — then zoom until you cannot read them. Mosaic one file at a time, each at or under 20MB; you cannot batch-move the box. Clear EXIF separately; compress after you paint. Image8K does it in the browser. Nothing is uploaded.
About redacting screenshots
Can I redact many screenshots in one batch?
No. Mosaic is a single-image tool: the number sits in a different place on every shot, so you cannot batch-move the same box. Open one file, cover it, download, then repeat. There is no “apply these strokes to ten images.”
For a phone or order number, mosaic or a black bar?
Mosaic. Blocks break the glyph, which is harder to read back. A thin black bar in the chat app often leaves a half-digit or is only a sticker on top. If you paint solid black, still cover the full string and zoom — if you can read it, paint again.
After I download, can someone still read the original digits?
Yes, if the brush missed a half-digit, intensity is too low, or you only checked at thumbnail size. Cover the number in the pixels, then zoom the preview until you cannot guess 6 from 8. If it is still readable, enlarge the brush and paint again.
Does painting upload my screenshot? What about EXIF?
No. Image8K paints in the browser. The screenshot stays on the device. Keep each file at or under 20MB. Painting the pixels does not replace clearing EXIF — open EXIF Viewer if the original still carries time, camera, or GPS.
