Rotate scans

The contract scan is sideways. The chat has to tilt. Rotate first?

You scanned the contract and it came out landscape. You drop it in the group and everyone turns their phone. The question is not “can a PDF hold a sideways page.” It is whether you straighten the pixels first, or make the next person read with their head on one side.

The contract came off the scanner on its side. You drop it in the group and people tilt their phones to read the stamp. A PDF will hold that page. It will not sit the letters upright for you.

Three contrasts: straighten first or go to PDF, rotate or mirror, a folder or one file

The next person rarely writes “please rotate.” Line up what you just tried with what they actually have to look at, then turn the pixels.

What you are deciding Do the left first Do not start on the right
Straighten now, or dump the file into a PDF Anyone would have to tilt. Open Rotate / Flip, sit the page upright, then merge with the images-to-PDF guide. Sending the landscape scan straight into Image to PDF. The attachment is one file. The reader still turns their head.
Rotate 90° / 180°, or a mirror flip Text should read left to right. That is rotate. A selfie that looks reversed, or a stamp that jumped to the other edge, is flip — a different control. Mirroring a sideways contract and calling it “fixed.” The page is still on its side. You only swapped left and right.
A whole folder, or one tilted shot Same wrong direction on every page? Rotate can batch: drop many files, apply 90° or 180°, download a zip. Treating a one-off crooked horizon like a batch. Fine-tune that single file. Keep each source at or under 20MB.

Rotate can run as a batch. Flip is a mirror, not a turn. Straighten first, then PDF or compress. Keep each file at or under 20MB.

One file or a folder: turn it, then send it on

Open Rotate / Flip on Image8K. Decode and export stay in this browser; the scan is never uploaded. Several files that share one wrong direction can share one pass — that is the point of this tool.

  1. Drop the image — or several. JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, each at or under 20MB. If it is still iPhone .heic and the page will not open, follow the HEIC to JPG guide first, then come back.
  2. Pick rotate, not flip, unless the page is mirrored. 90° left or right for a landscape scan; 180° if it is upside down. Horizontal or vertical flip only when left and right (or top and bottom) are swapped.
  3. Same mistake on every page? Apply one angle to the whole list. A single crooked horizon uses the fine-tune slider on that file — do not batch a unique tilt.
  4. Need one PDF, or a smaller file? After the pages sit upright, merge with Image to PDF, or follow the compress-to-target-KB guide. Do not crush a sideways original and hope the next person can read it.
  5. Download. One file goes straight to disk; many files can pack as a zip. Check the preview before you send it to the chat.

Straighten locally — rotate, then send

It is upright — what else still blocks the send

The portal wants one attachment: merge after you rotate, using the images-to-PDF guide — do not stack sideways pages and hope the reader rotates the PDF. The form still caps KB: compress with Compress Image after the pages sit right. A leftover transparent PNG that the portal refuses: follow the PNG to JPG guide.

The screenshot in the same pack still shows a phone number: cover it first with the screenshot redaction guide. Rotating does not hide pixels. It only turns them.

Image8K rotates in the browser. Contracts and chat photos stay on this device. There is no “upload first, straighten later.”

What “just send the scan” usually misses

People tilt their heads: rotate first. A PDF keeps whatever orientation you give it. Rotate can batch; a mirror flip is another control. Each file at or under 20MB. Image8K does it in the browser. Nothing is uploaded.

About rotating scans and phone shots

Should I rotate before I merge into a PDF?

Yes, if people would have to tilt their heads. A PDF will keep the pixels as they are. Rotate / Flip first, then send the upright files into Image to PDF. Generating the PDF and rotating later means another export.

Can I straighten a whole folder at once?

Yes. Rotate / Flip can batch: drop many files that share the same wrong direction, apply 90° or 180°, download one by one or as a zip. Keep each file at or under 20MB. A one-off tilted horizon is a fine-tune on that single shot.

Is rotate the same as a mirror flip?

No. Rotate turns the page so text reads left to right. Flip mirrors left-right or top-bottom — useful for a selfie that looks reversed, useless if the scan is only sideways. Pick the wrong one and the stamp still sits on the wrong edge.

Are the originals uploaded to a server?

No. Image8K rotates in your browser. Contracts, ID scans, and chat photos stay on this device. There is no “upload first, straighten later.”
