Using the browser's native Canvas drawing capability, the text or image watermark is drawn directly onto the original image's pixels at your chosen opacity and angle, then re-encoded and exported on your device — the whole process never touches a server, and your image only ever exists in your device's memory.
A watermark fixed in a single position is concentrated in one corner, so a simple crop or overlay can remove it. Tiling mode draws the same watermark repeatedly across a grid covering every area of the image, so removing it completely usually requires cropping away most of the picture — giving better copyright protection, though it also affects the image's overall look more noticeably. Choose based on whether “protection” or “presentation” matters more for your use case.

The watermark itself is composited on top of the original image and doesn't compress or downsample the original content. JPG and WebP keep their original format and get re-encoded; PNG and GIF (first frame only) are uniformly re-encoded as lossless PNG. The quality loss is similar to what happens with a normal image re-save — no extra blurring or distortion.
We recommend uploading a logo or graphic in PNG format with a transparent background — that way, only the graphic itself shows when composited onto the photo, without a rectangular background block covering the original content. If you upload a format without transparency support, like JPG, the watermark will be composited as a full rectangle, which looks less clean visually.
